The IRS allows an employer to purchase life insurance for each of their
employees. The premium is completely deductible for face amounts up to
$50,000.00.
It may include double indemnity for accidental death and amounts for
dismemberment. It can also include a face amount for each family member.
Employees do
not
own the policy, but the do have the right to name the beneficiary of
the policy. Typically, employers will purchase the same amount for each
employee.
In case of class distinction, a different amount can be purchased for
each class when no class has more than 2 1/2 times the class below.
Premiums are established as a "cost-per-thousand" with a flat amount
for dependent coverage.
